A must read for those sick and tired of Racism and Discrimination in America. There have been more people killed in the name of hate and injustice than by any other means. "A Mind Thing" a book of Black Poetry, attacks these very issues and awakens the human spirit of justice and equality. This book is truly a work of art with the added touch of exquisite delight. It's beauty and application of tactful seriousness combined with palatable humor will certainly reach the heart and souls of it's readers. ***ABOUT THE AUTHOR: John A. Maxon grew up as the son of a sharecropper and experienced racism and discrimination first-hand during the Civil Rights Movement. His book, "A Mind Thing" is considered a Masterpiece by many. Maxon's work examines the true scope of racism and discrimination in America and in the world. He emphasizes that when those in power fail to speak out against these types of injustices, the problem spreads like gangrene within society. Dr. King once said that "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." Understanding this quote is the key to helping Blacks learn and appreciate their true history. The book, "A Mind Thing" consistently drives this point into the hearts and minds of the readers and helps them to have the strength and courage to "speak out" against racism and discrimination. While the title implies that this books deals with reminding us of our painful racist past, the author explains that the philosophy expressed in this book can be used to help us eradicate racism and discrimination using positive means. In turn, we can experience a happy and enjoyable life that is fulfilling and productive. Boniface Harding, former President of Martin University, viewed the book as an extension of Malcolm X and Dr. King since it directly confronts injustices within society. Ron Clark, former English Professor at Martin University esteemed the work as 'a great value to society' and that this book was 'the right message at the right time'. It must be duly noted that this book was written by means of spiritual inspiration and the writer takes credit for being used as a vessel only. The words literally flowed through his pen by means of spiritual inspiration. The book is based on the principle of treating others as you would like to be treated. "A Mind Thing" conveys this principle into poetic form and provides the reader with the intellectual means to deal with racism and discrimination effectively. We can overcome the injustices of this system if we "speak out" in the name of freedom and never close our eyes to injustice. Dr. King didn't wait for justice and equality, he demanded that 'we must have justice now'! Racism has been going on too long. We can't keep letting the white man push us back into slavery. We must take our freedom back now! Black brothers, black sisters, WE SHALL INDEED OVERCOME!
