Carl Edmond Wingate's clothes are the canvas on which he paints. His subjects include spiritual icons, The Book of Kells, the Celtic Christian saints of Ireland, as well as historical people both past and present who have changed our world by living as they believed while affirming that we all share this same life. Wingate, a high school Latin teacher, began his paintings on shirts as a teaching tool. Student questions about the paintings opened discussions on ethics, cultures, and societies from classical times to the present.
